In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Mercedes E-Class Sedan achieved a “Acceptable” rating - the second highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Genesis G90 has not been tested.

The E-Class Sedan offers an optional Post Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The G90 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The E-Class Sedan has Car-to-X Communication, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The G90 doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

Both the E-Class Sedan and the G90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and lane departure warning systems.

There are over 76 percent more Mercedes dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the E-Class Sedan’s warranty.

As tested in Car and Driver the E 450 Sedan 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid is faster than the G90 3.5T e-SC 3.5 turbo/supercharged V6 hybrid:

Regenerative brakes improve the E-Class Sedan’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The G90 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes E-Class Sedan higher (6 to 7 out of 10) than the Genesis G90 (4). This means the E-Class Sedan produces up to 13.2 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the G90 every 15,000 miles.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes E-Class Sedan, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the G90.

The E-Class Sedan’s 245/35R21 front and 275/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G90 3.5T e-SC’s 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the E-Class Sedan can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The G90 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The E-Class Sedan’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The G90 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

The E 350 Sedan 4MATIC handles at .93 G’s, while the G90 3.5T e-SC pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The E 450 Sedan executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the G90 3.5T e-SC (25.8 seconds @ .73 average G’s vs. 26.2 seconds @ .68 average G’s).

The Mercedes E-Class Sedan may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 700 to 750 pounds less than the Genesis G90.

The E-Class Sedan is 1 foot shorter than the G90, making the E-Class Sedan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The E-Class Sedan has a larger trunk than the G90 (12.7 vs. 12 cubic feet).

The E-Class Sedan’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The G90 doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

An ASSYST PLUS is standard on the E-Class Sedan to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Genesis doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the G90.

If the windows are left open on the E-Class Sedan the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the G90 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the E-Class Sedan to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The G90 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The E-Class Sedan’s headlights were rated “Good” to “Acceptable” by the IIHS, while the G90’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the E-Class Sedan offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The G90 doesn’t offer cornering lights. The E-Class Sedan also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The Mercedes E-Class comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Genesis G90 isn’t available as a station wagon.

The E-Class Sedan is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The G90 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Mercedes E-Class Sedan, based on reliability, safety and performance.

The E450 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 2 more times in the last 8 years. The G90 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the E-Class Sedan as their 2025 Car of the Year. The G90 has never been chosen.
