The AMG E-Class Sedan’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Charger doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Dodge Charger doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Charger doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The AMG E-Class Sedan has Car-to-X Communication, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Charger doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

Both the AMG E-Class Sedan and Charger have rear cross-traffic warning, but the AMG E-Class Sedan has Active Brake Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Charger’s Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the AMG E-Class Sedan and the Charger have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available lane departure warning systems.

Warranty

The AMG E-Class Sedan comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Charger’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are better in initial quality than Dodge vehicles. With 95 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Mercedes higher than Dodge.

Engine

The AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 81 more horsepower (577 vs. 496) and 149 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 404) than the Charger Daytona R/T Coupe’s standard electric motors.

Fuel Economy and Range

The AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 495 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The Charger’s range is only 216 to 308 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 32.5 minutes for only an 80% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 5 hours and 29 minutes.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Charger doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and a locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the AMG E-Class Sedan’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Charger:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the AMG E-Class Sedan has larger tires than the Charger (F:265/40R20 & R:295/35R20 vs. 245/55R18).

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s standard 265/40R20 front and 295/35R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Charger Daytona R/T Coupe’s standard 55 series tires. The AMG E-Class Sedan’s optional 295/30R21 rear tires have a lower 30 series profile than the Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe’s 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the AMG E-Class Sedan has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Charger Daytona R/T Coupe. The AMG E-Class Sedan’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the Charger Daytona R/T Coupe.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the AMG E-Class Sedan’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the Charger Coupe’s (38.7 feet vs. 40 feet).

Chassis

The Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1450 to 1500 pounds less than the Dodge Charger.

The AMG E-Class Sedan is 11.6 inches shorter than the Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe, making the AMG E-Class Sedan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces. The AMG E-Class Sedan is 11.7 inches shorter than the Charger Daytona R/T Coupe.

The AMG E-Class Sedan is 5.8 inches narrower than the Charger, making the AMG E-Class Sedan easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Cargo Capacity

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the AMG E-Class Sedan’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Charger doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

With its sedan body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the AMG E-Class offers cargo security. The Charger’s hatchback body style and non-lockable folding seat defeat cargo security.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the AMG E-Class Sedan’s trunk can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Charger doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the Charger, the AMG E-Class Sedan has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s standard easy entry and exit feature raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Charger.

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children in the rear seat from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. Dodge does not offer a locking feature on the Charger’s standard power windows.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has two rear doors to provide better access for cargo and rear passengers. The Charger doesn’t offer rear doors.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the AMG E-Class Sedan offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Charger doesn’t offer cornering lights. The AMG E-Class Sedan also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

A power rear sunshade and manual rear side window sunshades are optional in the AMG E-Class Sedan to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Charger doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Charger has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan and Dodge Charger offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The AMG E-Class Sedan features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Charger’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The AMG E-Class Sedan offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Charger.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes AMG E-Class has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Charger.

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Charger doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Recommendations

Motor Trend selected the AMG E-Class Sedan as their 2025 Car of the Year. The Charger has never been chosen.
