The Mercedes AMG GT’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The 750S doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Mercedes AMG GT has a standard Active Brake Assist, which uses forward mounted sensors to detect an immediately impending crash (warning the driver first if the available collision warning system is equipped) and automatically apply the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The 750S doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

The Mercedes AMG GT has a standard Post Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The 750S doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Mercedes AMG GT has standard Close-Range Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The 750S doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Mercedes AMG GT offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The 750S doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The Mercedes AMG GT has Car-to-X Communication, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The 750S doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The 750S doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s blind spot warning system uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. The 750S doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Mercedes AMG GT’s standard Rear Cross-Traffic Alert uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side and Rear Cross Traffic Brake automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. The 750S doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The 750S doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The Mercedes AMG GT has standard Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The 750S doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Mercedes AMG GT and the 750S have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The Mercedes AMG GT weighs 1173 to 1281 pounds more than the McLaren 750S. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts. Crosswinds also affect lighter cars more.

Warranty

The AMG GT comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The 750S’ 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

There are almost 15 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are McLaren dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the AMG GT’s warranty.

Reliability

The 750S’ redline is at 8500 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The Mercedes AMG GT has a 7000 RPM redline.

Engine

The Mercedes AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 590) than the 750S’ 4.0 turbo V8. The Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 65 more horsepower (805 vs. 740) and 457 lbs.-ft. more torque (1047 vs. 590) than the 750S’ 4.0 turbo V8.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance running on electricity gets better mileage than the 750S (32 city/24 hwy MPGe vs. 15 city/19 hwy).

The Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance can travel with zero emissions for 11 miles. The 750S can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Mercedes AMG GT 43/63 S E’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The 750S doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Transmission and Drivetrain

A nine-speed automatic (SMG) is available on the Mercedes AMG GT, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the 750S.

All wheel drive, available in the Mercedes AMG GT, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The McLaren 750S is not available with all wheel drive.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Mercedes AMG GT CCB’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the 750S:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Mercedes AMG GT has larger front standard tires than the 750S (255/45R19 vs. 245/35R19). The Mercedes AMG GT’s optional front tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 750S (F:295/30R20 & R:305/30R20 vs. F:245/35R19 & R:305/30R20).

The Mercedes AMG GT’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 750S’ 35 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Mercedes AMG GT offers optional 21-inch wheels. The 750S’ largest wheels are only 19-inches in the front and 20-inches in the rear.

Suspension and Handling

The Mercedes AMG GT’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The 750S doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Mercedes AMG GT’s wheelbase is 1.2 inches longer than on the 750S (106.3 inches vs. 105.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Mercedes AMG GT is 1.5 inches wider in the rear than the track on the 750S.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (54% to 46%) than the 750S’ (41.2% to 58.8%). This gives the Mercedes AMG GT more stable handling and braking.

Chassis

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the Mercedes AMG GT has an electronically controlled liquid-filled main engine mount. A computer-controlled electric current in the liquid changes its viscosity, allowing the mount to dampen the engine completely at all RPMs. The 750S uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

The front grille of the Mercedes AMG GT uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The 750S doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The Mercedes AMG GT offers optional seating for 4 passengers; the 750S can only carry 2.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Mercedes AMG GT’s power trunk can be opened or closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The 750S doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

Ergonomics

The Mercedes AMG GT has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The 750S doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the 750S, the Mercedes AMG GT has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s standard easy entry and exit feature raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the 750S.

The Mercedes AMG GT offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The 750S doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The 750S’ cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the Mercedes AMG GT to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The 750S doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Mercedes AMG GT detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The 750S doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Mercedes AMG GT has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The 750S doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Mercedes AMG GT also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. The 750S’ visors are fixed into the windshield header.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The 750S’ power mirror controls are on the dash where they are possibly hidden by the steering wheel and are awkward to manipulate.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The 750S has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Mercedes AMG GT keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The 750S doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the Mercedes AMG GT’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The 750S doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The Mercedes AMG GT offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the 750S.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Mercedes AMG GT offers an optional Active Distance Assist Distronic, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The 750S doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

To help keep the driver’s hands on the wheel, the Mercedes AMG GT has standard steering wheel controls for the radio. The 750S doesn’t offer steering wheel audio controls.

The Mercedes AMG GT has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. McLaren charges extra for Homelink® on the 750S.

The Mercedes AMG GT is equipped with both FM and AM stereo radios, offering access to more content and better coverage than the 750S, which solely provides FM radio. With AM radio, you can enjoy a wider variety of stations featuring news, talk shows, sports commentary, native language programing, automated traffic guidance, and emergency broadcasts. AM waves travel further and penetrate buildings and obstacles more effectively than FM signals, especially at night. Having both FM and AM stereo radios the Mercedes AMG GT offers a more comprehensive listening experience compared to only FM in the 750S.

HD Radio boasts several benefits over conventional radio: superior sound quality with clearer and consistent FM broadcasts, CD-quality audio, and Multicast Channels offering up to four streams from a single station, adding programming choices. Cars like the Mercedes AMG GT equipped with HD Radio provide an improved in-car entertainment experience. The 750S, devoid of this technology, foregoes these benefits. Selecting the Mercedes AMG GT empowers drivers to enjoy a more immersive and enjoyable listening experience while on the go.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes AMG GT has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the front center console. The 750S doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The 750S doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Recommendations

The Mercedes AMG GT outsold the McLaren Super Series by over seven to one during 2024.
