The Mercedes AMG GT’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Mistral doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Mercedes AMG GT are reminded to check the back seat. The Mistral doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Mercedes AMG GT has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Mistral doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Mercedes AMG GT has a standard Active Brake Assist, which uses forward mounted sensors to detect an immediately impending crash (warning the driver first if the available collision warning system is equipped) and automatically apply the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The Mistral doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

The Mercedes AMG GT has a standard Post Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Mistral doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Mercedes AMG GT has standard Close-Range Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Mistral doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The Mercedes AMG GT has Car-to-X Communication, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Mistral doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The Mistral doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The Mercedes AMG GT has a standard Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Mistral only offers a rear monitor.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Mercedes AMG GT’s standard Rear Cross-Traffic Alert uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side and Rear Cross Traffic Brake automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. The Mistral doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Mistral doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The Mercedes AMG GT has standard Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Mistral doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Mercedes AMG GT and the Mistral have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

Warranty

There are almost 35 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Bugatti dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the AMG GT’s warranty.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance running on electricity gets better mileage than the Mistral (32 city/24 hwy MPGe vs. 8 city/12 hwy).

The Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance can travel with zero emissions for 11 miles. The Mistral can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Mercedes AMG GT 43/63 S E’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Mistral doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Mercedes AMG GT’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Mistral doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes AMG GT higher (4 out of 10) than the Bugatti Mistral (1). This means the Mercedes AMG GT produces up to 33.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Mistral every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic (SMG) is available on the Mercedes AMG GT, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the Mistral.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Mercedes AMG GT’s optional front tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Mistral (295/30R20 vs. 285/30R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Mercedes AMG GT offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Mistral’s largest wheels are only 20-inches in the front and 21-inches in the rear.

Suspension and Handling

The Mercedes AMG GT 55/63 offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Bugatti doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Mistral.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Mistral doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

Chassis

The Mercedes AMG GT is 8.1 inches narrower on average than the Mistral, making the Mercedes AMG GT easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The front grille of the Mercedes AMG GT uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Mistral doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The Mercedes AMG GT offers optional seating for 4 passengers; the Mistral can only carry 2.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Mercedes AMG GT’s trunk can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Mistral doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

The Mercedes AMG GT has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Mistral doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Mercedes AMG GT offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Mistral doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Mistral’s

Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the Mercedes AMG GT to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The Mistral doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Mercedes AMG GT detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Mistral doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Mercedes AMG GT keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Mistral doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the Mercedes AMG GT’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The Mistral doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The Mercedes AMG GT offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Mistral.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Mistral doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Mercedes AMG GT offers an optional Active Distance Assist Distronic, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Mistral doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s standard steering wheel mounted cruise control is close at hand. The Mistral’s standard cruise control is on an over-crowded turn signal stalk.

Standard smartphone integration for the Mercedes AMG GT allows the driver and passengers access to select programs on their smartphones, including reading text messages aloud, playing internet radio stations and other connected activities without taking their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel. The Mistral doesn’t offer factory integrated smartphone program access.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Mistral doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The Mercedes AMG GT is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The Mistral doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
